The Autism Society of North Carolina’s ASD Partners program provides training and consultation to Autism Society of North Carolina staff as well as outside organizations. Our goal is to nurture and support experienced teams that help families assure optimal skills and quality of life for people with an autism spectrum disorder.

Our Directive
ASD Partners provides training and consultation on individual characteristics that affect learning and life, on quality assessment practices, and on proven interventions that lead to development of skills. Consultation services are available to all direct care staff within the Autism Society of North Carolina and to other agencies that provide service to individuals dealing with the challenge of an autism spectrum disorder.

  • The principle of parents as co-therapists is primary. Professionals have so much to learn from families dealing with autism and we need their knowledge and investment as the foundation of service delivery.
  • We believe that every member of the team working with individuals with autism should be treated with this same level of respect. All of us can act as co-therapists with the families.
  • Our trainers and supervisors of staff providing direct care service will be able to demonstrate the skills we train. All of us will ‘walk the walk,’ not just ‘talk the talk.’ We will teach by demonstration, by practice, by sharing in the process of teaching our people with an autism spectrum disorder. Ours will be a blended model of consultation and training.
  • We will use techniques that work. That is our goal. We will use what research identifies as effective and will build our techniques around the individual and what he or she needs.

Our training modules involve presentations, exercises, opportunities to practice specific skills, and follow-up feedback on staff performance with the objectives of each training module. There are concrete, expected proficiencies for each module of training and our staff people are expected to demonstrate concrete skills to show their expertise.
