The Autism Society of North Carolina currently has close to 40 active Chapters across the state, 3 Affiliates and several support groups. Individuals may contact either Ann Palmer or Marty Kellogg in the Chapter Relations Office of ASNC for updated information on chapter activity and start-up. The organization also employs regional Parent Advocates across the state who work closely with the Director of Chapter Relations to provide information, resources and ongoing support and consultation to Chapters.
ASNC Chapters provide a wonderful opportunity for parents who face similar challenges to:
- offer each other support and encouragement
- share experience, information and resources
- raise awareness about the needs and the strengths of individuals with ASD
- learn realistic, practical solutions for autism-related concerns
- have a place where they feel welcomed, accepted and understood
Chapters incorporate the mission, vision and values of ASNC into how they are organized and the way that they work in the community. They open their membership to all persons interested in the welfare of individuals with ASD and their families. They also do not promote one autism treatment and acknowledge that each parent must make treatment decisions based on what they feel is best for their child.
Chapters are typically led by volunteer parents whose generous spirit and passion for their own children inspire their desire to help other area families facing similar challenges. Professionals working in the field of autism are also often involved and contribute their knowledge and a wonderful perspective to Chapter meetings and activities. For more information on starting and maintaining a Chapter, please contact the Chapter Relations Office of the Autism Society of NC.
Remember, when you join the Autism Society of North Carolina you can designate a Chapter or Affiliate in your area to receive part of your membership fee. This is a wonderful way to support families of autism in your own community.
