Autism is currently the second most common developmental disability, affecting up to 1 of every 150 children born today. Autism and related autism spectrum disorders are communication disorders which affect a person’s ability to understand, communicate and interact with the world. People with autism require much support and an individualized approach to learning skills.
The Autism Society of North Carolina’s mission is to provide support and promote opportunities for the 50,000 plus North Carolina families affected by autism spectrum disorder. On September 8 and October 13, 2007, thousands of runners, walkers, and volunteers from North Carolina and the southeastern US will join together to support people with autism and their families and the work of the Autism Society of North Carolina.
The 9th annual Autism Ribbon Run and the 2nd annual WNC Run/Walk for Autism will help raise awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder and the programs and services of the Autism Society of North Carolina.
This year between the two events we hope to raise over $200,000 in to help provide needed support services for people on the autism spectrum and their families throughout North Carolina. For us to reach this goal we need your help and support!
