About Us Blue Ridge Bags & More is a non-profit organization created by Sarah Handlan and Laurie Kozar, parents of a young man with autism. Blue Ridge Bags & More is a result of their dream to create a supportive place of employment for adults on the spectrum. In 2006 Blue Ridge Bags & More was donated to the Autism Society of North Carolina(ASNC) in memory of Sarah Handlan. Today, ASNC maintains this family's dream by providing meaningful work in the community and fostering skills in art and creativity for people living on the autism spectrum. Our Products Blue Ridge Bags & More proudly sells TEACCH Home Teaching Kits available in levels I and II. We also sell canvas tote bags, lunch bags, note cards, and prints displaying original artwork by individuals with autism. Home Teaching Kits Home Teaching Kits are designed by the Chapel Hill TEACCH Center and are intended families and teachers who are interested in applying the TEACCH structured teaching principals with children at home or in the classroom. TEACCH professionals and parents in the autism community have identified areas of need which have been addresses in the structured kits. Employees at Blue Ridge Bags & More construct all of the tasks that are designed to go into the kits exclusively for sale through our company. The Level I Teaching Kit is designed for children beginning the process of "learning how to learn." This kit provides instruction on setting up your environment and examples of basic activities and work tasks to foster the child's learning process. The Level II Teaching Kit is designed for individuals with more advanced academic abilities such as reading, numbers, and language concepts. Both kits contain a manual and DVD with instructions on where, when, and how to teach students with higher needs in learning.
Original art created by artists working with Blue Ridge Bags is scanned and printed onto reusable canvas tote bags and lunch bags. We also create and sell prints and note cards displaying our art work. Please contact us for more information about ordering these products. Contact Information Lauren Bousquet, Program Director |
