Asheville Area

The Autism Society of North Carolina supports the following LME/MCOs in the Asheville area: Smoky Mountain Center and Western Highlands Network.

Programs unique to our area include:

Respite Program
Our respite program offers families a break from the demands of caring for a loved one with autism and peace of mind that he/she is being well cared for. Low-income families are encouraged to apply for financial assistance, which is awarded on a sliding scale based on need.

Blue Ridge Bags & More
This small-business and day program provides meaningful work and fosters skills in art and creativity for adults on the autism spectrum. Participants are employed in the manufacturing and sales of canvas bags, mouse pads, prints, cards, and teaching kits. Participants also enjoy volunteer and employment opportunities in the community.

Sara Handlan Fund
This fund provides financial assistance for families affected by autism who are in crisis.

Supported Living Homes
We operate two Supported Living Homes in the Asheville area that house adults with autism who receive daily support.
