The Autism Society of North Carolina has a new name for a proven resource: Parent Advocates will now be called Autism Resource Specialists, better conveying the benefits they can provide to families that are seeking help for loved ones with autism.
We have Autism Resource Specialists to support families in every county of North Carolina. Because they each are the parent of a child with autism, our Autism Resource Specialists have firsthand knowledge of autism and are understanding and supportive people to talk with about your autism concerns. Because they are trained and experienced advocates, ASNC Autism Resource Specialists can assist you with a variety of autism questions and concerns including:
- Connection to autism resources through information and referral
- Education and training to help you become your child’s best advocate
- Guidance in navigating the worlds of early intervention, school, community, and adult services
- Connections to parents and families in your community through ASNC chapters or support groups
In the words of one of our Autism Resource Specialists, “We are a support person, counselor, problem solver, question answerer, resource finder, and educator all rolled into one.”
