Smoothing the Transition Back to School – COVID Edition

Despite the impact of COVID-19 on the start of school this year, there are still steps parents can take prior to the start of the school year to make the transition much easier.

In this webinar, we will examine the core characteristics of autism and look at ways to help prepare our children for the unique changes that this particular school year brings, including preparing for remote instruction or in-person instruction with social distancing and wearing masks. Parents will see examples of methods that they can use with their own child.

Parents will also get tips on pro-active steps they can do now in preparation for advocating for their child’s needs once school gets started.

* Review core characteristics of autism that can present challenges when transitioning from summer to the school year.
* Demonstrate strategies that can deployed in advance of the school year to prepare a child for the coming school year.
* Provide parents with ways to organize and communicate information about their child’s needs with teachers as the school year approaches.
