Brunswick County

The Autism Society of North Carolina offers a Summer Day Camp in Brunswick County with support from Trillium Health Resources. The camp is held at the Brunswick County Community College in Bolivia.

Summer Day Camp

  • We serve individuals ages 4-22 for six weeks during the summer, daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • We offer a counselor-to-camper ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 based on self-help and behavioral needs.
  • All staff receive intensive, hands-on training by autism professionals.
  • We provide engaging recreation and leisure activities on site, including swimming.
  • The interest form for 2021 will open in the spring.

Newport

The Autism Society of North Carolina offers a variety of social recreation programs at our center in Carteret County with support from Trillium Health Resources. The center is in Newport.

Summer Day Camp

  • We serve individuals ages 4-22 for eight weeks during the summer, daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • We offer a counselor-to-camper ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 based on self-help and behavioral needs.
  • All staff receive intensive, hands-on training by autism professionals.
  • We provide engaging recreation and leisure activities on site and take field trips off site as well.

Afterschool Program

  • We serve school-age children daily during the school year, from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • We offer counselor-to-camper ratios of 1:4 to 1:1 based on self-help and behavioral needs.
  • All staff receive intensive, hands-on training by autism professionals.
  • The program includes structured social recreational activities such as arts and crafts as well as leisure activities such as outside play. A snack is provided each afternoon.
  • Our program staff constantly evaluates the needs of participants to make adjustments to the content and curriculum being offered.
  • Registration is open online from late July to mid-August each summer.
  • When the registration period closes, we will use our priority placement system to determine who is offered spots in the program for the coming school year.
  • If you miss applying during the registration period, you can apply at any time for our waitlist.

Adult programs

  • Our programs meet the core needs of adults with autism ages 18 and up.
  • Programming is designed for two groups: adults who are more independent and require less support (more abstract learners) or adults who require a bit more support (more concrete learners).
  • Programs are offered daily for several hours at the center, and participants are asked to commit to attending consistently.
  • Participants can choose from activities such as cooking, health and fitness, and social and leisure activities.
  • Participants also have ongoing opportunities to volunteer in the community.
  • Our program staff constantly evaluates the needs of participants to make adjustments to the content and curriculum being offered.

    • Our program staff constantly evaluates the needs of participants to make adjustments to the content and curriculum being offered.
