On Saturday, September 22nd, the Autism Society of North Carolina (ASNC) will hold its fourth annual Greensboro Run/Walk for Autism. Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate in this family-friendly event, which begins at 9:00 am. The scenic 5K route winds through the campus of UNCG.
Proceeds from this event benefit the Autism Society of North Carolina’s Triad Services Office and Guilford County Chapter, which provide support and promote opportunities for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families. Programs in the Triad that will benefit from the run include:
ā¢ An after-school program for children with autism,
ā¢ An evening and weekend respite program that allows families to enjoy down time while their child enjoys structured activities with qualified staff,
ā¢ A recreational program for adults with autism, and
ā¢ A teacher grant program, which provides classroom supplies and training to teachers of students with developmental disabilities.

Background:
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a lifelong developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. Recent studies estimate that up to 1 of every 70 children born in North Carolina will be affected by autism.
