Greensboro Run/Walk for Autism Doubles Money Raised for Triad Autism Programs

The Autism Society of North Carolina raised over $40,000 at the 4th annual Greensboro Run/Walk for Autism on Saturday, September 22nd. This is almost twice what was raised last year to fund programs that support Triad families affected by autism.

Proceeds raised at the event help support a variety of local programs, including:

ā€¢ parent support meetings and family social activities,
ā€¢ the Teacher Grant Program, which provides funds for Guilford County teachers to obtain necessary classroom materials and essential training,
ā€¢ assistive communication technology programs, and
ā€¢ music, dance, and tai chi lessons for children and adults on the autism spectrum.

“The Autism Society of North Carolina and the Guilford County Chapter appreciate this strong show of support,” said Tracey Sheriff, CEO of the Autism Society of North Carolina. “This is a community event and we are grateful to be able to put the proceeds back into the Triad community as we expand available supports for individuals on the autism spectrum, their families, and the professionals who serve them.”

Over 500 participants ran or walked the scenic 5K course through UNCG. Teams made up of families and friends of loved ones with autism came out in full force. The teams who raised the most money included the Alamance All Stars and the High Point Lacrosse Team.

Donations continue to be accepted at www.greensbororunwalkforautism.com.
