The Autism Society of North Carolina (ASNC) raised a record-breaking $300,000 at the 14th annual Triangle Run/Walk for Autism on Saturday, October 13th. Proceeds help to enhance the lives of individuals and families affected by autism by providing:
Numerous opportunities for children with autism to participate in summer camp, after-school programs, and social skills groups,
Respite care for families affected by autism, and Resources and support for families throughout their journey with autism.
The run hosted a record 217 teams that worked together to raise money in honor of a loved one with autism or to promote autism awareness in the community. Many of the teams showed their spirit and creativity with customized t-shirts, banners, and costumes.
Premiere Communications and Consulting was the leading contributor, donating over $20,000. Premiere Communications also supplied the generator for the event, and has provided volunteers at ASNC’s Camp Royall facility to rewire the offices for data and phone outlets.
The Triangle business community displayed an impressive show of support. Capital Run/Walk in Cameron Village donated gift cards to all award winners. UPS provided a truck for complimentary locker-style storage for the runners. Starbucks got the day started with free coffee, and participants enjoyed treats donated by Biscuitville and Earth Fare.
For our smallest competitors, Stormy and the Storm Squad from the Carolina Hurricanes led the Kid’s Dash. And for those with energy left over, there was a bouncy house, face painting, and playtime with Wool E. Bull from the Durham Bulls.

Over 3,200 runners and walkers participated in the race, which is part of the Second Empire Grand Prix Series. The race is the largest fundraiser of the year for ASNC. Background:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. Recent studies estimate that up to 1 of every 70 children born in North Carolina will be affected by ASD.
For over forty years, the Autism Society of North Carolina has led efforts to address areas of need and expand services for the autism community in North Carolina. ASNC works to directly improve the lives of individuals affected by autism, by providing advocacy, education, and services.
