WNC Run/Walk for Autism Raises over $45,000 to Fund Local Autism Programs

The Autism Society of North Carolina raised over $45,000 at the 7th annual WNC Run/Walk for Autism on Saturday, September 29th. Proceeds from the event fund autism services in Western North Carolina, including:

ā€¢ Blue Ridge Bags & More, a business that employs individuals with autism,
ā€¢ The Sara Handlan Crisis Fund, which provides families with emergency help due to autism related hardships, and
ā€¢ Supported Living Homes for adults affected by autism.

Despite the rainy weather, over 500 runner and walkers, 150 volunteers, and a variety of businesses participated in the event to positively impact the lives of those affected by autism. UNC-Asheville hosted the run for the second time, providing a scenic and challenging course for runners and walkers.

Diamond Brand Outdoors partnered with the Autism Society of North Carolina to sponsor the run. In addition, they provided generous gift cards to all event winners.

“We are thrilled with the support that we receive every year from our community,” says Kristy White, Director of Development for the Autism Society of North Carolina. “The amount we raised exceeded our goal of $40,000, which is great news for the individuals and families who count on the services we provide.”

Donations continue to be accepted at www.wncrunwalkforautism.com.
