Behaviors associated with autism can be challenging. Even more challenging is when the behaviors are occurring at school and you are not sure how they are being addressed and what options you have when behaviors persist. This workshop will look at problem behaviors through the autism lens first and foremost. Then we will focus on how Behaviors are addressed within the IEP through goals, accommodations, Functional Behavioral Assessment, and Behavior Intervention Plans. And we will discuss your rights as they relate to behavior in school.
Objectives:
* Provide an overview of challenging behaviors associated with autism and basic strategies for addressing those behaviors.
* Highlight where behavioral needs are addressed in the IEP
* Discuss Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) as a process and component of the IEP.
* Review the rights of parents and students should behaviors at school lead to disciplinary actions.
