Practical Considerations for Parents and Caregivers: Navigating End-of-Life Planning (online)

This workshop is geared toward discussion of the practical considerations that a caregiver may need to make in planning for the future of their loved one with autism after the death of the caregiver. The rationale for early planning as well as how to get started will be discussed. Topics covered include: government benefits and services, guardianship and alternatives, letter of intent, ABLE accounts, Special Needs Trusts and preparation of future caregivers.

Workshop objectives:

  • To discuss the need for future planning, the barriers and benefits, and how to get started.
  • To get general information on some of the basic tools used in future planning such as Government Benefits, Letter of Intent, ABLE account, Special Needs Trust.
  • To learn about the importance of making decisions and sharing information regarding your child’s future, not only with future caregivers but with your child.
