Understanding & Managing Behavior in Autism (Rockingham)

Sponsored by CONNECTIONS: A Family Support Program of Sandhills Center in collaboration with NC Families United

Presenter: Nancy Popkin, ASNC Autism Resource Specialist

This presentation will help parents get a glimpse at how certain characteristics of autism affect an individualā€™s behavior. We will discuss what these behaviors mean, develop new ways to interpret behaviors and introduce some basic strategies to help parents manage behavior at home and in the community.

Objectives:

  • Review core characteristics of a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Develop an understanding of how core characteristics manifest themselves outwardly in behaviors associated with autism
  • Introduce basic strategies to help families manage behaviors at home and in the community
