Clean Teeth!
Here is a visual work system my children use to brush their teeth by themselves. It took a while to teach them how to use this tool, but now they brush fairly well on their own. I offer it in the a.m. and p.m., along with their floss already strung on holders.
Do this ONLY if you’re feeling a little crafty. Then you can get that out of your system, brag about making things over vacation, and call it good:
1. Print this post.
2. Cut the pages.
3. Laminate or cover both sides with clear contact paper.
4. Punch a hole in each page.
5. Put it on a key ring: It’s a flip book!

I told my brother last night how we are trying to get Ben to pee-pee in the potty, all the visuals and stories leading up to the attempts. Told him with great pride how for the past 9 or 10 nights in a row he has peed in the toilet at bath time and how sometimes he will stand there for a very, very long time (too embarrassed to say exactly how long) and not move, OR WANT TO BE MOVED, until he completes his task. We feel we are making progress, have met a challenge and figured out a way to have it work in our favor.
He, my hyper opinionated brother, of course told me we were screwing him up, could not believe how stupid we are and that all we need to do is tell him to go in the pot, \”You are (blanking) him up, just stop it, g-damnit you\’re making him a (blanking) retard with all this (blank)!\”

My reply, \”He IS developmentally delayed, behind, not like the other kids, slow to adapt to new things, he\’s different, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN THE PAST TWO AND A HALF YEARS?!?!!\”
His reply back, \”You tell me all this (blank) you do with him, have ya ever thought to just let him alone for god\”s-sake? Let him be like other kids, just leave him alone? Just back off, see what happens. Let it go!\”
Alison thanks for the pictures, I will make a little flip book, wrap them up with a tooth brush and a bar of soap and give it to my brother for Christmas.
